Primary Purpose:
Functions as a technical specialist with a supervisory role. Independently develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. May supervise engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity, or serve as a technical specialist providing knowledge and expertise. As assigned by Department Head, pipe stress engineer may be accountable for the quality and productivity of assigned staff and for meeting budget goals in administration and training. S/he has the authority to allocate resources, provide training and propose and implement standards and guides in accordance with Division Policies, Standards and Guides.
General Responsibilities:
- Supervise engineers and/or technicians involved in the thermal stress analysis of piping systems as well as the design and specification of expansion provisions and pipe supports for projects.
- Manage pipe support specification and suppliers.
- Execute project design reviews. Verify compliance with industry codes and standards, Business and Section standards and guides, applicable workflow processes, and contractual commitments. Implement Lessons Learned.
- Assign staffs to project and proposal teams and work closely with the Mechanical Project Discipline Engineer to support the project schedule.
- Keep Department Staffing Coordinator and Department Head informed of workload and staffing needs.
- Monitor, take appropriate action, and report on quality and productivity.
- Coordinate the annual review process for Section members. Address discipline problems or poor performance within the Section. Keep Department Head involved and informed as required.
- Identify training needs and coordinate training programs. Train and mentor staff in technical execution. Monitor administration and training budget and ensures that budgets are met.
- Develops, maintains, and implements related standards, guides, and reference drawings with the approval of the Mechanical/Chemical Chief Engineer.
- Develops and maintains technical and construction guide specifications in coordination with the technical specifications engineer.
- Maintain contacts with equipment manufacturers and industry leaders in area of Section expertise. Coordinate with Procurement to keep bidders list up-to-date.
Qualifications :
- Minimum bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering or related disciplines from a recognized accredited university.
- Experience in detailed pipe stress design in power or petrochemical industry
- Have license for Professional Practice, Associate Mechanical Engineer minimum. Professional Engineer License in Mechanical is advantage.
- Experience in design support in preparation of stress analysis of piping using ASME, B31.1 and B31.3.
- Knowledge of ASME/API design codes and structural FEM program.
- Expert in CAESARII, AutoPIPE V8i, RISA3D or similar program.
- Good interpersonal skills and proven leadership skills.
- Excellent command of English.
- Flexibility to travel.
